LAND RECORDS AND SURVEY OFFICE BUILDING INAUGURATED
Parliamentary Secretary, Youth Resources & Sports and Land Revenue, Naiba Konyak inaugurated Land Records and Survey Office building at Mokokchung on 26th August 2010. The new office building, located near Ongpangkong Salang, with three storied was completed at a cost of Rs.60 (sixty) lakh in sixteen months.
In his inaugural speech, Naiba Konyak said even though the Land Records and Survey is a small department yet it has been playing an important role in maintaining land records and survey and asked officers and staff in the department to do justice to the people. Naiba thanked the people of Mokokchung district for their cooperation with the department and said the department has not received any report of land encroachment from the district. He also said the department has completed the work of land survey in the district and it is under scrutiny in the department.
The inaugural function chaired by Deputy Director, Land Records and Survey, Y.Z. Ngullie was attended among others by Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Lithrongla G. Chishi, Director, Land Records and Survey, P. Acha and Head of Offices in the district.

DISTRICT LEVEL SCIENCE SEMINAR 2010 HELD AT MOKOKCHUNG
District Level Science Seminar on the Topic ‘India and the World Science: Are we there?’ was held today at Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, R. Asenla Keitzar who was the Chief Guest in her speech said such educational seminar encourages the students to pursue greater heights and attain competitive spirit. It also show case the potentialities of the students in the District, she added.
Altogether 10 students from different schools participated in the seminar. The participants were Imliakum NCRS, Imnasenla Dilong HS, Imlibenla Model HSS, Longrinaro MGHSS, Alemtemsu IMHSS, Mapukala SHSS, Tsuktinungla Town HSS, Benjungrenla CCHSS, Waizungla JMS and Nungshijungla QMHSS.
Nungshijungla of QMHSS was declared winner while Waizungla of JMS and Imliakum of NCRS were placed in second and third place respectively.

CMO MOKOKCHUNG CALL FOR RENEWAL OF FOOD LICENSE
Chief Medical Officer, Mokokchung, Dr. Bendang Jamir through a notification informed all Food License holders of Tuli Town and Tzutikong Town to obtain/renew license for the year 2010. Dr. Bendang said renewal would be done on 6th to 9th September 2010 for Tuli Town at the office of Senior Medical Officer CHC, Tuli town and on 13th to 14th September 2010 for Tzutikong at Sub Centre, Tzutikong.
Medical fitness examination for employees of this business establishment will also be conducted during this period. Further it is informed that action would be taken as per Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules top those who fail to comply with this notification.

TRAINING ON RIVER VALLEY PROJECT HELD AT WOKHA
Training cum demonstration for Chuben River Valley Project was held on 26th August 2010 at Soil Colony-Molonsu Community Hall, Wokha. The Department of Soil and Water Conservation Wokha organized the training.
River Valley Project (RVP) is a 100% Centrally Sponsored Scheme, where this is the 4th project to be undertaken by the Department. Deputy Director, Temjen Longkumer, while giving the keynote address, said that this project is a Research oriented, where the purpose is for treating flood control in low lying areas during rainy season. He also stated that this project is taken up for treatment of catchments areas beyond Dhansari and Doyang River. The project will also undertake study on Hill land treatment, drainage line treatment. For successful implementation of the project, he urged the village authorities to co-operate with the department officials. Fifty (50) trainees led by their Village Councils Chairman from six (6) villages namely Humtso, Elemyo, Wokha Village, Longsa, Pongidong and Tsungza attended the training.

RAT INFESTATION HIT MOKOKCHUNG DISTRICT
After bamboo flowering in one of the species known by the Aos as ‘Ashi’ (Bambusa Pallida) and subsequent rat infestation in paddy fields and farms were reported from villages. The situation was alarming as swarms of rat invading fields and devouring crops were reported every day.
District Agriculture Officer, (DAO) Mokokchung, Bendangtemsu said that report of destruction of crops particularly the paddy by nocturnal rat swarms were received from Mangmetong, Kinunger, Changki, Chungliyimsen, Dibuia, Waromong, Longjang, Japu, Longsemdang and a number of villages from Tzurangkong range. He said two mini trucks loaded with chemicals Ruban, Ratol and Ecodon arrived at Mokokchung and were distributed to those affected villages to control burgeoning population of rats. He said that department is considering procuring ‘Zinc Phosphates’ if need be, to control the menace. He however said that this chemical would be used only when situation goes beyond control. The DAO was apprehensive of using Zinc Phosphates as this chemical not only kill rats but also kill other mammals, birds and insects. He also said departmental officers and field staffs are closely monitoring the situation in the District by conducting visit to those affected villages.
The phenomenon of bamboo flowering and rat infestation was last seen in 1961-62 in the District where number of villages were severely hit resulting in starvation among the people.

DEMO PROJECT ON SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT LAUNCHED
The second phase of Kohima Municipal Demo Project on Solid Waste Management under Nagaland Pollution Control Board & Centrals Pollution Control Board was launched this mooring, the 26th August 2010 at Chaü Parking Lot, Science college Road, Kohima by MLA & Chairman, NKVIB, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest appreciated the Nagaland Pollution Control Board for making the project a reality. He stressed on the importance of inculcating civic sense and cleanliness stating that it should start from a young age. He therefore called for awareness participation from schools and also from hospital personnel, especially in such a programme where emphasis is on bio-medical waste and waste segregation.
Dr. Nicky also hoped that the machineries procured by the KMC including the JCB and the hearse would be a lot of service for the people. He also called for cooperation among the members and wished them all success for carrying out the project successfully. He further thanked the NPCB hoping that the project would be the beginning of many things to come. Dr. Nicky also advocated more programme like workshops and seminars, which would go a long way in educating the people.
In his keynote address Member Secretary, NPCB, Rusovil John said that the Kohima Municipal Waste Management Demo Project is sponsored by the Central Pollution Control Board and the first phase was launched in 2006. The second phase of Solid Waste Management will give emphasis on Bio-Medical Waste, he said. He further said that deep burial of bio-medical waste would be carried out while hazardous medicines will be separated and burnt in a chimney located at the Slaughtering House site on NH-39 Kohima.
Joint Director, ULB Cell, Urban Development, Dr. Toshimanen Ao also spoke on pollution and various types of pollutants. He congratulated the NPCB for implementing the pilot project and encouraged the NPCB to look into other facilities and bring changes. He also said that there is a need to change the mindset of the people and make the public aware.
Advisory Committee Member, KMC, Kuolachalie Seyie in his speech stated that under the Demo Project on Solid Waste Management, the KMC has bought two Mahindra pick-up vehicles to transport the bio-medical waste from the hospitals, nursing homes and pharmacies etc to the burial place at the Slaughtering House site. They have also bought hand carts and a JCB to serve the dual purpose of giving an impetus to the project work as well as generate sustainable income to support it. He also expressed gratitude to the CPCB and NPCB for providing financial aid and technical assistance to make the much need project a reality.

STATE LEVEL YOUTH PARLIAMENT & PARLIAMENTARY QUIZ 2010
The State Level Youth Parliament competition and Parliamentary Quiz 2010 will be conducted at Imagine Hall ATI, Kohima on 27th August 2010 with Minister for Planning & Co-ordination, Evaluation, Veterinary & AH & Parliamentary Affairs, T.R. Zeliang as the Chief Guest.
The first session will be chaired by Secretary to Government, N. Benjamin Newmai who will also deliver the welcome address. The highlights of the programme includes Introduction by District Representatives, Exhortation and concluding remarks will be given by Director Higher Education.
Parliamentary Quiz and Youth Parliament competition will be conducted in the second session of the day followed by prize distribution by the Chief Guest.

ARMY RECRUITMENT RALLY UNDERWAY AT PHEK
Army recruitment rally was underwent here at Phek in the local ground on 23rd August 2010 and it will continue till 29th August 2010. The rally is being conducted by Army recruitment office Rangapahar. Thousands of young boys from Nagaland are competing to enroll in army service.

Network of Mokokchung District People Living with HIV/AIDS (NMP+) has expressed gratitude to Women Development Kohima for granting nutritional food items such as rice, dal, ghee and measuring scale to the women living with HIV/AIDS. CHIEF MINISTER INNAGURATES CHUBI BRIDGE
Nagaland Chief Minister, Nephiu Rio today the 23th August 2010 inaugurated the newly constructed Chubi Bridge at Doyang, Wokha. Rio in his inaugural speech congratulated the NEEPCO Officials specially the engineering wing for their tireless efforts in constructing and completing the Bridge. He said that the bridge will not only connect Sungro Range but will create easy accessibility for the other districts like Mokokchung, Mon, Tuensang and Zunheboto for reaching to the commercial cities in a short distance and hoped that the opening of this new bridge will create more avenues for economic and developmental activities. He further stated that, the Government is trying its best in pressing development in all nook and corner of the state however the biggest issue hampering the development within the state is due to land ownership problem. Rio therefore appealed to the land owners to address their grievances in a reasonable way and cooperate with the Government and the authorities, in order to develop our land into a vibrant society. The Chief Minister also said that the region has a huge potential for integrated irrigation and urged the people of the area to extend co-operation to the government to bring about more development in future. Rio also informed that under the declaration of the ‘Year of Entrepreneurs’ the government wants to sponsor two interested youth to undergo for a study in plunge Jump at Switzerland where after they completed their study they would come back and thereby boost the tourist attraction.

Apart from that they also helped the people of the region through opening and constructing hospitals, Schools and Dispensary to the effected people of the region. It may also be noted that the Doyang had an installed capacity of 75MW giving 12% free power supply to the state of Nagaland, also according to the NEEPCO Officials 1% of the total income were being used to the welfare of the people of the effected people. It may be mentioned that the bridge was constructed at the cost of Rs.7.1 Cores under NEEPCO Cooperative Social Responsibility Scheme CSRS where according to the engineering wing vehicle with more than 9 tonnes are not allowed to cross the bridge.
