CHIEF MINISTER INNAGURATES CHUBI BRIDGE

Nagaland Chief Minister, Nephiu Rio today the 23th August 2010 inaugurated the newly constructed Chubi Bridge at Doyang, Wokha. Rio in his inaugural speech congratulated the NEEPCO Officials specially the engineering wing for their tireless efforts in constructing and completing the Bridge. He said that the bridge will not only connect Sungro Range but will create easy accessibility for the other districts like Mokokchung, Mon, Tuensang and Zunheboto for reaching to the commercial cities in a short distance and hoped that the opening of this new bridge will create more avenues for economic and developmental activities. He further stated that, the Government is trying its best in pressing development in all nook and corner of the state however the biggest issue hampering the development within the state is due to land ownership problem. Rio therefore appealed to the land owners to address their grievances in a reasonable way and cooperate with the Government and the authorities, in order to develop our land into a vibrant society. The Chief Minister also said that the region has a huge potential for integrated irrigation and urged the people of the area to extend co-operation to the government to bring about more development in future. Rio also informed that under the declaration of the ‘Year of Entrepreneurs’ the government wants to sponsor two interested youth to undergo for a study in plunge Jump at Switzerland where after they completed their study they would come back and thereby boost the tourist attraction.

The NEEPCO a certified organization had employees of 2400 with its H.Q at Shillong and had an installed capacity of 1130 power with an aim to generate power through Hydro and Thermal. Apart from that they also helped the people of the region through opening and constructing hospitals, Schools and Dispensary to the effected people of the region. It may also be noted that the Doyang had an installed capacity of 75MW giving 12% free power supply to the state of Nagaland, also according to the NEEPCO Officials 1% of the total income were being used to the welfare of the people of the effected people. It may be mentioned that the bridge was constructed at the cost of Rs.7.1 Cores under NEEPCO Cooperative Social Responsibility Scheme CSRS where according to the engineering wing vehicle with more than 9 tonnes are not allowed to cross the bridge.
The function was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Rovilatuo Mor where P. Konwar proposed the vote of thanks. Chief Minister was accompanied by his Cabinet colleagues, Parliamentary Secretaries and a host of dignitaries and other government officials. Earlier the Chief Minister also inaugurated a welcome gate at Englan EAC H.Q.
